Central Alberta Wood Workers Guild History:

When Hubert Letourneau moved to Lacombe and built his wood working shop in 1989 he thought of starting a wood workers guild to meet and interact with fellow wood workers.

The group first met at Letourneau’s shop on January 22, 1992. Present at the first meeting were:

Hubert Letourneau, Ralph Prins, Ron Biel, Dan Hunter, Merdie McGrandle, Orval Abma, George Land, Dave and Don Wierenga, Rob McCoy, George Munn and Howard McRobbie.

The group used to meet on Saturdays in members shops or at the Lacombe Composite High School shop. They brought in speakers, shared wood working ideas, built lots of toys and doll cribs for Santa Anonymous and the Christmas Bureau, and bird houses for Kerry Wood Nature Centre.

Hubert Letourneau was president for the first few years followed by Howard McRobbie,  Rob McCoy,  Ernie Daviduct , Gerry Whitehead, Tom Denis, Jim Beach, to the current president Guy Barnabe.

The club currently meets evenings on the third Thursday of the month at members shops or at the Burman University woodshop in Lacombe.

The guild continues  the tradition of inviting guest speakers and members to share their knowledge on woodworking topics and socialize at each meeting.
